Review/Highlights of this Guide: This is a free guide for Aion Templar class. Please note that the following guide is a work in progress but given that Aion online is brand spanking new, the guide does justice to the quality. The author’s first language is not English but he gets the message across clearly just a few spelling mistakes here and there. The guide aims to cover a lot of ground in being a Templar. However, as said earlier many parts are still a work in progress. The only visibly consistent part of the guide is the equipment builds he has suggested. So far the guide seems to be a skeleton of what it aims to be in the future. The guide in its current form can be given a pass but with barely any other work being done on Aion Templar guides, it wouldn’t hurt you to give this guide a shot. And if you are a templar in waiting, we ask you to give your thoughts there and help him with the guide.
Bottom Line: A work in progress that shows potential to be a great guide in the future. For now, read it…it atleast gets you started. The guide follows…
Status: Updating random stuff.
The Terrific Templar Compendium
Keep the discussion flowing! Please contribute with information!
Currently need information on: I need numbers on all stats, section 4.1, Input on pvp strategies.
This is a work in progress, the current version will work as a draft for me.

1. Introduction
The purpose of the Compendium
I am working together with Quinden To create two compendiums for the two warrior classes, the one that you’re reading now and the Gladiator compendium which you can find here.
The Templar Class Quoted from AionOnline.com
The Templar is a brave soul who must hold the frontline, using their shield to block and parry attacks while waiting for a weakness to show itself before retaliating. A Templar becomes more powerful when struck; indeed they can only reveal their full potential when they are in the midst of combat.
The Templar isn’t just a heavy shield and pointed sword however. Unlike their Gladiator cousins, I have seen Templars using incantations and chants to protect and heal their allies, making them a versatile yet sturdy class.

When the monstrous Balaur besieged all of humanity, the Templars served as a reserve force of last resort, leaving their temples only when humanity’s defenses were about to collapse. To this day, Templars quote the proverb: “When all else fails, send a Templar.” In Ancient Atreia, the Templars were dedicated to the service of Lord Nezekan, the Empyrean Lord of Justice, and while modern Asmodian Templars believe that he turned his back on them when he chose to be faithful to Ariel, they uphold the concept of justice as strongly as ever. At the start of the Abyss War, each century (100 soldiers) had 10 heavily armored Templars that would serve as living “rally points” for the other soldiers. As the war progressed, the Asmodians and Elyos started experimenting with more flexible organizations, and now Templars can be found in units large and small. But the notion of protecting the other soldiers – and being at ground zero of the fight – is never far from a Templar’s mind. Many Templars go so far as to inscribe their comrades? names on the inside of their shield to symbolize that the shield stands between those soldiers and the perils of the Abyss. |

4. Stats and Stats Mechanics
All warriors start with a specific set of stats, they look like this:
Starting Stats:
Power 115

Accuracy 100
Agility 100
Knowledge 90 / to 90
I will cover some numbers and a detailed explanation of each stat here.
Power:
Stamina:
Accuracy:
Agility:
Knowledge:

5. Skill lists and resources
The complete list of all available Templar skills can be found at the Aion Armory
The generic warrior skills that you use in the starting area can be found here
General information regarding Stigma can be found here
Currently, Aion has been patched so that you may ONLY use the stigma skills of your own class; this was done for balancing reasons.
Templar Stigma Skills These are taken from the wiki, they seem abit off so see them as a placeholder

I’d say its greatest characteristic is its accurate chain skills and its various conditional skills that activate depending on the situation. When a great sword is equipped, you can still use all the chain and attack skills of the sword and mace – which is, obviously, an awesome perk. As for limitations, the Templar isn’t as mobile in combat as the other classes but it possesses more than enough defense to protect itself and its many skills for interfering with the opponent’s movements fully makes up for it. Templar’s do have the advantage of being able to wear all 4 types of armor, cloth, leather, chain and plate. All classes will have the ability to change and manipulate their items so that they get the stats they want and the look they want. The actual armor design (look/feel) is very organic; we wanted them to be able to mix and match their armor and still have it look kick-***, we also wanted the players to feel like they had cool looking armor from level 1. I realize it’s not a fashion show but still, it’s no fun waiting to complete a set before you look “complete”. |
The top end pvp gear and maybe pve as well undoubtedly seems to be the Abyss gear. The Abyss gear have bonuses that increase both your defense and offense(?) when attacking player characters. One single piece won’t do the trick but when you collect them all you will notice something for sure.
From what I’ve seen on the armory I couldn’t find anything regarding offensive bonuses. Those items might only be live on the Korean servers but on the level 50 abyss gear the bonus looks like this “Suffers 5% less damage when you are attacked by a PC”.
This is the level 50 set currently available on aionarmory.
Archon Tribunus’s Breastplate
Archon Tribunus’s Plate Boots
Archon Tribunus’s Plate Gloves
Archon Tribunus’s Plate Greaves
Archon Tribunus’s Plate Pauldrons
As you might notice some of these pieces also increase movement speed, The leggings and the breastplate increases flight speed and the boots increases speed. This also seems very useful for pvp and in some cases also pve. One thing you have to notice about the abyss gear is that you don’t get any accuracy from it. Its important to be aware of this since without any accuracy most of your attacks wont land or they’d get parried or dodged. I don’t know how these mechanics work but korean played have stated how important accuracy is and I take their word.
Forum thread covering this topic at the templar boards.
!Dont take any of these builds as fact, See them as mealy suggestions and theories.
Tanking: Main Stones: HP and Shield Block [This section will be rewritten]
If you’re aiming for a good tanking build there are only two stones you should care about, HP and Shield Block, prioritizing HP. When tanking you will likely be switching into Steel Wall or Shield Defense (whichever you have access to) to increase your defensive nature and becouse of that Parry is more of a hindrance than a benefit. If you shield block, then immediately parry, 90% of the time the mob attacks so fast you won’t be able to get a shield counter off, which leads to less damage and generally means more damage taken because it’s either not stunned, or taking a longer time to die. Parry is also a weak stat becouse it takes a massive amount of points before it becomes worth the mitigation.
Block also mitigates damage based on your shield’s block precent, where as parry in most cases stands for a lesser amount of mitigation. Without any offensive stones you’ll obviously be weakening your attack abilities, but with a HP-Block based build you’ll be able to take a great deal of punishment.
(Information regarding the tanking build is based on Cerau’s experiences. Credit goes to him – Source)
Solo Levling: Main stones: Crit(?)
There is a cap on crit rate and its usefulness for each class is relative to the effciency of a crit ie; damage increase, added effect, damage bonus. Still most players seems to favor crit for solo levling these days.
(Information based on Zumbaro’s experiences and testing. Credit goes to him – Source)
Party play: Main stones:
PvP: Main stones:
Your already a tank so in PvP you want to work on increasing your DPS because with a healer behind you its going to take a hell of a lot to kill you.
!I would like someone to confirm these builds. Please Reply in the thread with all information regarding Manastones that you have. I want some more facts on the table before i write about other dps orientated builds.

7. Strategies and Tips
- 7.3.1 Tanking information
Aion uses two system to determine how to calculate threat the Hate-Listing system and the Enimity system. The Enimity system is the avrage threat/aggro based system.
Hate-Listing System (Riku have made a topic trying to explain it deaper and more detailed, can be found here.)
The Hate system we don’t know all that much about yet. To explain it very simple, basicly all monsters have a diffrent set of variables, depending on how you fit the variables you get a number on a list, A higher place on this list will increase the monsters aggressivness against you. Variables could be things like level, armor type, class and skills and kill count. This means for example that a templar might be a better tank for human creatures then beasts. It could also mean that you can gain enimity based on how may previous kills you’ve made. Variables might change over time aswell.
How to counter these variables as a templar we have no idea about at this point.
This system may seem like a huge thing, but it doesn’t override the original aggro system and it is not that important.. it’s just a small addition to that.
Enimity
- 7.4.1 Strategies Vs. Certain Classes
Warriors:
Templar:
Gladiator:
Scouts:
Ranger:
Assassin:
Mages:
Sorcerer:
Spiritmaster:
Priests:
Cleric:
awdawdwa
Chanter:
The Chanters are pretty hard to deal with becouse of thier massive healing and thier big stun aresenal. When you fight a chanter you need burst them down with a heavy skill-chain before they have a chance to heal or stun you. This might be though since the normal templar don’t deal that much damage. When they are about to throw in a skill-chain you need to be ready to interupt with your Stunning Strike and Shield skills to make sure they wount land it on you. It’s recomended to use a shield vs the priest classes since you need all counterattack skills you can get to keep them busy with stuns and interupts.

9. Current Bugs
Shield block – Shield counterattack.
Due to lag or a bug while using shield block, you can use more then one shield counterattack ability if I hit them fast enough, instead of just using one. These HAVE to be the next two abilities that you use, and you have to hit them superfast.
(All information regarding this bug is based on Raazae’s experiences – Source)

<br /> Block also mitigates damage based on your shield's block precent, where as parry in most cases stands for a lesser amount of mitigation. Without any offensive stones you'll obviously be weakening your attack abilities, but with a HP-Block based build you'll be able to take a great deal of punishment.<br /> <i><font size="1">(Information regarding the tanking build is based on <a href="http://www.aionsource.com/members/cerau.html" target="_blank">Cerau's</a> experiences. The Enimity system is the avrage threat/aggro based system. <br /> <br /> <b>Hate-Listing System</b> <font size="1">(<a href="http://www.aionsource.com/forum/members/riku.html" target="_blank">Riku</a> have made a topic trying to explain it deaper and more detailed, can be found <a href="http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/16289-hate-listing-system.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</font>)<br />
The Hate system we don't know all that much about yet. It could also mean that you can gain enimity based on how may previous kills you've made. Variables might change over time aswell.<br /> <br /> How to counter these variables as a templar we have no idea about at this point.<br /> <br /> This system may seem like a huge thing, but it doesn't override the original aggro system and it is not that important.. it's just a small addition to that.<br /> <br /> <b>Enimity</b><br /> <br /> <ul><li><b>7.4</b> PvP Strategies</li> </ul><blockquote><ul><li><b>7.4.1 </b>Strategies Vs. When you fight a chanter you need burst them down with a heavy skill-chain before they have a chance to heal or stun you. This might be though since the normal templar don't deal that much damage. When they are about to throw in a skill-chain you need to be ready to interupt with your Stunning Strike and Shield skills to make sure they wount land it on you. It's recomended to use a shield vs the priest classes since you need all counterattack skills you can get to keep them busy with stuns and interupts.<br /> <br /> <img src="http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/knite16/spacer2.png" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br /> <br /> <b>8.
